Es ist der verzauberte Zauberer Bedlo (Peter Lorre), der eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Zauberer Dr. Scarabus (Boris Karloff) verloren hat. Craven gibt Bedlo seine ursprüngliche Gestalt zurück und erfährt, dass seine Leonore sich im Schloss von Scarabus befindet. Craven bricht sofort zum Schloss von Scarabus auf, um seine geliebte Leonore zu befreien -- begleitet von seiner Tochter Estelle (Olive Sturgess) sowie Bedlo und dessen Sohn Rexford Bedlo (Jack Nicholson -- in einer seiner ersten Rollen). Im Schloss von Scarabus stellt s! ich heraus, dass Estelle sich berechnendend dem vermeintlich mächtigsten Zauberer an den Hals schmeißt und das Scarabus mit Hilfe des intriganten Bedlo dem arglosen Craven ein Falle gestellt hat, um ihm seine Zaubergeheimnisse zu entlocken.
